WELCOME WEEK

During the Welcome Week, the Erasmus students have the perfect opportunity to get to know each other. Every day of this week, you can join one of our interesting activities, starting off with the Welcome Day. On this day, the ESN team gives a guided tour in our lovely city of Gent and throws a smashing party in the evening! Other amazing activities will follow during the rest of this week, such as a pub crawl, speed dating, international dinner & flag party,… The Welcome Week is an excellent opportunity to meet your ESN-team and plenty of other international students and to start your period abroad with a blast!

 

TRIPS

During the year we make several day trips to some of the famous cities in Belgium such as Antwerp, Bruges and Brussels. A trip to the sea cannot be missed either! We will also go abroad and pay a visit to our Dutch neighbours in Amsterdam.

Every semester, we also plan some weekend trips. First of all, we’ll leave Belgium to go to the most romantic city of all times: Paris!! There, we’ll do a guided tour through the city and make a boat tour on the Seine. In your free time, you can share a baguette with your newest lover, admire the lights of the Eiffel Tower, pay a visit to the Louvre,…

Another weekend trip will take place within the Belgian borders. Pack your bags for our famous trip to the Ardennes! The Ardennes is a region located in the French-speaking part of Belgium. There, we will combine some great parties with a walk through the beautiful hilly landscape and a visit to a nearby city. The Ardennes weekend is nothing else than fun fun fun, so be fast to subscribe!

 

CULTURE

Next to sports, trips and parties, there is also time for some cultural exploration. Depending on what is going on in/near Gent or in another Belgian city, we’ll give you the opportunity to visit musea, exhibitions, festivals, concerts, operas,…

All this and many more will be announced on the mailing list, on our facebook page and on our website!

 

SPORTS

For the ‘sporty’ people among you, sports activities will regularly be organized. We wil go swimming, play some football, badminton, basketball, and lots more. ESN Will make it fun for you to stay in shape!

 

CANTUS

And last, but not least: some more info about a typical Belgian student activity, which you cannot miss!

Hello there, fellow students! This is your Senior speaking.

I would like to inform you briefly about a wonderful activity we organize twice a year (maybe more if you are good!), which is called a ‘Cantus’. A Cantus is a very old tradition in Flemish student life where students who are a member of local student clubs come together to drink and sing a lot of songs. Once you have paid your entry fee, you receive your own cup and you can drink as much beer as you want during the entire cantus.

HOWEVER! A cantus is not to be mistaken with a normal party! During the cantus you have to follow some traditional rules at all times. If you neglect to do so, you will get punished or humiliated severely. The most important of all rules is the following: BEER is a Holy Drink! Spilling beer is never tolerated and abuse of this heavenly beverage will result in severe punishment. During the Cantus, some old, formal, Latin phrases are used, but these will all be explained to the people brave enough to attend the Cantus. If you really want to know more about how it would be like to be a Belgian student, this is an activity you cannot miss.

What about cancellation?

You have bought a ticket for one of our amazing events, but unfortunately, something comes up and you can no longer go. What to do then?

If you decide to cancel, you will receive a full refund from ESN Gent, if you do so more than a week in advance. This way, we have the time to find a replacement.

ESN Gent will not refund a bought ticket less than a week before the event. It is then up to you to find a person that wants to take your place and buy your ticket from you.
The only exception to this rule is when you cancel due to illness, and have a doctor's note. You can cancel up to 48h before the event then, and will receive a refund.
