President: Mara Bauwens
Mara studies architecture at Sint-Lucas in Ghent. But that's just one of her interests! She loves all kinds of different things (music, travelling, fashion, design,...), so you will find her in all kinds of different activities!
Her favorite beverage is white wine so if you invite her for a drink she can never resist! She hasn’t been on Erasmus yet but instead she tries to get as much of an erasmus-vibe through you guys
Vice-President: Mara Espinosa Fuenzalida
This Mara studied PR for the last three years and now she’s going to study international management. Last year was her first year in ESN, and she just loved it! The second semester she went to Barcelona for a three-month internship. But this year, she's back! Get to know her better at one of our activities
Treasurer: Tomas Declerq
Be kind to Tomas, he controls all the money in ESN Gent. He is an important link in the ‘ESN machine’ and everybody knows that a well oiled machine works better. So provide this guy with enough liquids (i.e. Beers, jenever, pastis, shots…) = very important!
Besides being an awesome treasurer Tomas also has a normal life outside of the spotlight that is ESN. He spends his time studying to get his Master in Journalism at UGent and playing sports to relax.
You Erasmus students are new in Belgium, and you are probably not familiar with some of our local customs. For example: did you know that it is tradition for Erasmus students to always buy their ESN-board members a beer when they meet? Well now you know…
Enjoy your time in Gent and keep our traditions alive
Lieven Van de Walle
After his great Erasmus experience in Thessaloniki (Greece), Lieven knew that ESN would be the right place for him. As student of French & (ancient & modern) Greek, you can always try to teach him some crazy words in whatever language you know, or be impressed by his strange and elaborate Erasmus vocabulary. Lieven is busy with music almost all the time, so if you're wondering what song is destroying your eardrums and making your feet move at the party, just ask him. Other things you want to ask him? You can find him in the Porter House on Wednesdays, on other Erasmus activities, or on Facebook! (Does this guy have a life?)
Charlotte De Pourcq
Meet Charlotte! New in the ESN family and very excited to meet you all! She studies Clinical Psychology at the Ghent University, but don't let any potential psycho-blabber scare you off! She's sociable, friendly, easygoing and always ready to help you out! Her love for meeting people around the globe is what brought her to ESN. You can spot her at various activities as well as in the Porter House, often in the good company of a glass of wine. She's a sucker for Italian food so if you ever want to cook her dinner: a good spaghetti will get you her eternal gratitude
ESN is the one thing that kept Silke from a full-on post-Erasmus depression, so she wants to do something in return: she'll be this year's webmaster. But beware, she does not speak computer! (Her language skills do increase very fast with some alcohol in her blood) After 6 months in Barcelona, her Spanish has only improved a little, but she can tell you where the best place for cava is and explain how to take the metro without paying. After 3 years in Gent, Silke probably knows as much about the city as you do now, but don't hesitate to ask!
BOOY-AH! You’re in Ghent, and this means you’re in the same city as Mieke! Last year she went on erasmus to Valladolid. Because the experience was so awesome, she decided to join ESN afterwards and to keep erasmussing. Mieke likes to meet people from all over the world, so never hesitate to introduce yourself and have a chat in dutch, english, spanish, french, portuguese, german or latin. However be aware that when hanging around with Mieke at night, you probably don’t sleep before your first classes in the morning. Unfortunately, you will only be able to meet her in second semester, because she’s studying in Chili from August until January.
Brecht Van Rie
This man, Brecht, is one merry easy-going fellow radiating joy out to all who come close unprotected. People who are alergic to spontaneous behaviour should avoid eyecontact. Brecht has loads of excess love to vent and all the love that isn't absorbed by snowboarding, partying, good food and company is invested in meeting new interesting people. There's definitely an appreciation for humor, in all it's glorious forms. You'll often hear him make a joke (not always a good one though). He manages somehow to combine his merry-go-round lifestyle with studying Psychology. Brecht was born and raised in Ghent so he'll probably be able to tell you something about his beloved hometown. If you're looking for an evening of rambling about any concievable topic, this is your man!
